With regards to this thread, I chose not to reply directly because I don't agree with what was being asked. I did not start paying business rates until I was in my own premisis, we are lucky in this country in may ways as the government encourages business start-ups & as long as you do go mad, you can happily get yourself started from home (or garage).

I self taught myself in my garage & was working away for 2 years before I built-up the courage to get my own premisis. It was great as one of your biggest expences is the property. I just learned slowley (t-shirt printing at first) & did jobs really very cheap & I expained to the customers I was learning so it would be cheap but may take a while & everyone was very supportive.

Good luck & be ambitious!!

Just to add my humble opinion,,,funeral directors usually need and want an established reputable florist who can come up with the goods day in day out week after week etc etc,,,a funeral director will link himself to the best florist he can find that can do that ,,,and one who will give a nice fat discount to him for putting lots of work their way,,,if a new operator doing a bit from a garage or god forbid,,kitchen sink,,,can offer the discount I can to my funeral man then I'm flaming well closing my shop and converting my garage too!!

They do tho Lexy, town where I live there's one FD who seems to do most funerals in town, you can't get a look in there for a kitchen sinker who does all the flowers.
