Hobby Craft

I visited a Hobby Craft store for the first time and was amazed at the amount of starter material that they stock for many crafts. I couldn't price the other sections but the floristry section although offering lots of bit and pieces for the beginner to have a go with wasn't cheap. I thought that they would probrably get a better deal from their local florist if of course she would sell floristry equipment to them.
It made me more determined that I would make sure customers knew that they could buy bits and pieces off me to have a go at making their own flowers arrangements. I am already happy to sell whatever I use myself in the shop. I think it's the way florists should go. What do you think?

i sell my stuff, i wanted to learn at one point, so why shouldn't others, we all moan when we can't get staff so we shouldn't hinder any new comers to the trade, they might be our best employees one day.

I second that. 60% of my customers yesterday were buying sundries, some were on courses, some just fancied having a go, some were part of a flower arranging club.

Good for them I say, it raises awareness of floristry which in turn will raise our profile and like Louise said, they could turn into a fab employee.

I agree!

Totally agree Rainbow, but it's surprising how many florists wont sell sundries to hobbyists. I'd always sell a bundle of wire, a length of ribbon, a block of oasis etc. I did hear a florist once say to a customer she couldn't sell her anything because of the weights and measures inspector ???????
