I commented on the pics, as I often do before I saw this thread. Good for you asking for peoples comments. It's a brave thing to do, not sure I would ask anyone what they thought of my work in case they didn't like it. I would have to go in a corner and cry
I love seeing other florists work, and as one of the members said it's a matter of taste like everything in life. My family are artists so I know all about different tastes. Like floristry you present your work to the public and hope for the best! Also like floristry you put your heart and soul into your work.
When I was training as an artist I remember my lecturer saying "follow the basic rules and you will stay on the right track", when I was training as a florist, doing my city and guilds my tutor said the same thing.
Not everyone is as brave as lavender but I hope that when they post their pics the the gallery they do want comments. I always try (when I have the time) to go into the gallery and offer supportive comments to other members. I know there are a small band of people who do the same. I think it would be nice if more people commented on the pics considering how may hits they get. What do the rest of you think?

Although I myself don't post negative comments, I post pictures expecting to recieve it! Of course its a matter of taste, and seeing I come from a different country, I actually expect some of you to say "hey...well..not my cuppa tea!" I say kudos to lavender to actually ASK for comments. I'm sure she knew that when she asked she'd get good and not so good reviews. There's always a way to say something constructively without hurting anyones feelings. I expect folks to be honest...but not mean!

My mother is the epitomy of coolness..if you ask her if she likes something and she doesn't she says "well dear...its very...interesting!" (like when I dyed my hair aubergine-colour...the pause btwn 'very' and 'interesting' was about 3 minutes!!!!)
So I will not condemn a not-my-taste comment and I will start posting more comments!!

Absolutely correct..and it's so refreshing to hear you all saying so. If you want comments like "that's lovely darling" then all you need do is ask one of your friends. If you want constructive criticism or just a few ideas you may not have thought of, then there's no better place than here. Let's face it, if you feel your work is 100% and can't be improved, then the future is going to be a little boring. If you're like most people and are continually striving to do things a little better then you need to keep adding to your 'ideas bank'. I don't really believe there is a 'perfect' way to do anything in floristry. So when someone says.."you could do this" or "you could add a little bit more of that", it's simply a suggestion as to how you could do it a little different next time. Not necessarily better, just different. If something really is 'not quite right', then any 'constructive criticism' should be accompanied by an explanation of how the work doesn't comply with the 'established' rules.
It's good to see this happening and it's what makes this forum such a useful resource.
