I am on a mission today.I am a qualified flroist of 28 years and have had six shops. I have employed qualified flroists(some which have been not that good)and unqualified (which some have been fantastic).
I now rent out my old florist to my under manager and i work my florist from home and hey i wish you theVERY BEST OF LUCK.THE FLORIST INDUSTRY HAS CHANGED DRAMATICALLY OVER THE YEARS AND I AM GLAD I AM RUNNING MINE FROM HOME(MY ACCOUNTANTANT TOLD ME TO DO THIS AND I WAS PETRIFIED BUT HEY,IT IS ACTUALLY WORKING )mind my eldest daughter has been ill aswell but iam glad to say she is much better now but,i joined the flroist forum and i felt quite snubbed by the odd florist(I AM PROBABLY OLD ENOUGH TO BE THEIR MOTHER).
some do not seem to like florists working from home but life has changed and i wish you the best of luck.I have been even questioned WHY I SHOULD BE A FLOWERS DIRECT MMEMEBER well i deserve to be I HAD TO GO THROUGH A VIGOROUS TEST THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE SO WHY THE HELL SHOULD I NOT BE A MEMBER AND I THINK FLOWERS DIRECT ARE THE WAY FORWARD FOR ANYONE THAT IS BRILL AT DOING FLORISTRY.

I must tell you it has taken me years to get noticed as a "experienced" designer I am 42 years old and for me it's working from home is what works for me..I have 4 children the oldest will leave for collage this fall.. I have been able to raise them all here in our home and still be able to work and make an income.. Yes I have a seasonal business and a lot of designers feel that if your not in it every day then you don't qualify!! I have earned my good name from a lot of blood sweat and tears. and I do understand where they are coming from.. I feel for them too. So I don't really take to much of it to heart they are untitled to there opinion's too..
I am glad we have a place to come and talk. One thing is for sure we ALL LOVE FLOWERS...so we share a common bond in a way!!

I joined the florists forum and was disappointed at the comment made about the fact i am a relay member mind you on that day i had a big row with my sister so with one thing and another it all got out of hand i'm afraid i know i should not take things to heart but i have worked six shops(still own my other shop but it is rented out to my ex undermanager)i do miss contact with the outside world but my daughter was very ill plus i have a six year old son and another daughter so it was a massive decision to make but working from home has made things easier for me .
But relay members are needed in south wales(especially where i am based)i have to rely on customers i have built up over the years.NOT ON A MISSION NOW I HAVE CALMED DOWN(MUST BE MY AGE).ALL THE BEST.

one thing I have learned over the years there is always room for improvements!! I am very humble and I love talking to others in the biz. I learn something new all the time.. I always have room to make adjustment.
I think what some florist with "real" brick and morter buildings don't care for is the "basement? Bettys that try to throw flowers together and call it wedding work!!! they work out of there homes with no coolers, no tax i.d # don't pay the insurance and liability that a florist has too. Or claim it on their taxes..
I know what a hassle it was when my husband built me my little shop to work from. It sits on our land but the county made us jump though hoops if I was going to run it as a home base business!! permits, we had to have the driveway up to code, just a lot of paper work, but I was looking forward to having my place of business here where I could raise my family.. it was a lot just to be open from march- dec. but well worth it.. so I do see there point.
I have people all the time calling wanting to work with me so they can open a business too. some people just think it's fun and no work. I have to laugh if they only new the stress it is.....
