I'm going to an event in England (from Ireland) soon that requires me to make and wear a costume. The costume I've chosen has a floral theme and ideally I'd like to decorate it with fresh flowers for effect, but I won't be wearing the costume until the second day of the event. I wanted to arrange the flowers at home to plan where on the costume they should go but then I'd have to bring them to England in my suitcase and keep them fresh until needed.

Is this even possible? Are there any flowers that would be most suited to the project? Or should I just go with fake?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

i wouldnt really like to travel with the flowers so maybe you might try ordering online to be delivered where you will be staying and go from there you could always have a trial run at home. i think the lasting flowers would be the best to use carnation, chrysanth, statice etc have fun

i personally would go with silk flowers at least that way you know that it wont die, the other thing to do is take the bits to make it with you and buy the flowers when you are there maybe?

I could get them when I get there if I act quickly, I did find a directory of florists in the area.

However, there's a field near my house that's full of bluebells right now and I'd love to get some for the costume. The dress I'm making is pale pink and the purple-blue would make a stunning contrast, plus it's free. Is there any way I can preserve flowers until August if I pick them now?

I really don't want to go fake, the air at this event tends to get muggy after a while and to walk around smelling like flowered would be fantastic for me and anyone nearby.

In england i know that you cant pick wild flowers not 100% sure why i think they have a preservation on them. Not sure about Ireland.

I dont know of a way to preserve them, dont think its entirely possible, Blue bells arent going to be around in August.

Your best bet would be to either use silk flowers or to buy when you are in england. Sorry if thats not very helpful

I suppose you could make up corsage like designs and then attach them on the day. What is the event??

Preserving flowers could be done with Oasis silicone, but not sure how they would last til August..?

bluebells are classed as a wildflower so no one is allowed to pick them if they are cultivated in your garden you can pick them thats in england.
i do not think they would preserve well maybe go with another blue that will be available then, statice would be a good laster and available everywhere and the purple/blue would be a good substitute.
the corsage idea sounds a really good idea

Missi Bluebells are a definite no. Beautiful in the wild but would wilt quickly if picked and put on your costume. If your heart is set on bluebells, go for quality silk and spray them with essence. You will be "smelly" all day.
