Are people afraid to work nowadays ?

I was chatting to a wholesaler I deal with on the south coast, around the Brighton area, and he told me that all his customers, bar 2 are closed on Good Friday.

Everybody complains about falling turnover, and competition from the supermarkets, but I think some florists need to take a serious look at themselves before pointing a finger at the opposition.

Are people just not prepared to work nowadays ?

I can respect people not wanting to get up at 04.00am in the morning to go to the markets, but by closing at every opportunity, they are throwing away profits.

You are just pissed you have to work on Friday as it isnt a holiday in Holland :P

But I do see more shops opening on Sundays, but its the customer that has to know this, most people do not go shopping in a local high street on bank holidays because no other shops are open, only the big stores are open and thats only for 6 hours max by law.

But Im sure if the florist shop knew it would be worth opening, they do.

don't worry about me. I've never been afraid to work

It's not the bank holiday monday thats the problem, it's good friday for example, or take for example how many shops close just after xmas, and don't open until the first week in Jan.

we're always open sundays, good friday bank holiday mondays and just after xmas is always really busy funerals mostly but ''sorry we forgot to get you anything'' flowers, plants and gifts are very popular.we let people know we're open and they tend to ring rather than passing trade.it is useful to open especially if your competitors are shut! even if you just have very minimal staff in.
