Thanks for your link, I hadn't heard of Keukenhof before. There are four of us going, so will have to agree on where to go as it's probably unwise to go our separate ways in Amsterdam! Am really looking forward to a break from Glasgow and meeting some new folk. We were meant to go before Mothers Day but 8 inches of snow meant no flights

What type of work do you do, I notice you're an early bird, your day is probably coming to an end by the time I roll out of bed at 8.15! Why don't you describe a typical day, and I'll tell you all about my more colourful customers (we get Carol Smillie, you know!! )

You shouldn't have too much trouble in Amsterdam , it's a fairly large city, but the centre isn't too bad. Everything is pretty much walking distance, and there's so much to see and do, you won't get too far away.

As to your question about what I do, i'm a salesman for a Dutch flower export company. I've been out here in clogland for the last 19 years.

Todays not too bad, I didn't get out of bed until 05.00am, but it's cos i'm a bit flued up at the moment. Normally up at 04.00am (03.00am UK time) and on my way home at about 04.00pm

I ship mainly to the Uk, but have in the past sold to the USA, Spain, Middle east & the Eastern block. I spend about 6-8 hours on the phone, and the rest is making offers to customers by mail, or just getting out and about in the auction looking at whats new and interesting.

Now I have to go, cos I can't sit here wasting the bosses time

back to my game of patience now.

Hi Pacific Blue

Im currently working for an exporter based in Aalsmeer, we export to shops mostly in South East England area and do wholesale for the rest of the UK.

Obviously you have to come and visit Aalsmeer, only half hour train ride from Amsterdams central station, but come early, before 8am to see it in full glory.

There is an admission charge if you havent arranged with a company to show you around. you can visit the Auction website at www.vba.nl

I know Metz is at Naaldwijk auction (never been there) maybe they can arrange something for you.

But in Amsterdam you have to visit a coffee shop and also the Red Light district

Lots of museums if you like that sorta thing, Anne Franks House & Van Gogh Museum are popular, just watch out for the bikes and trams!
