It will probably be quiet tomorrow with the bank holiday....
I see you have lived in Holland for ages now, I have been here for just over 2 years, dont speak hardly any Dutch yet, will have to get around to going to class to learn it, obviously you speak it well right? Also with your kids, I have a 10 month old boy, wondering how he will grow up here, are your kids perfect in both languages? We have decided that I speak to him in English and the wife (whos Dutch) speaks in her language. Hopefully that way he will grow up speaking both, did you do the same? Anything you miss about home? I miss mostly the food, not roast sunday dinner for me Its ok here, much the same really apart from they speak this weird language ![]() |

been here for 19 years now.
My kids are 10 (nearly 11) and 7 years old. The eldest speaks very good English, but I almost never speak English at home. It's was just a habit that I always spoke Dutch at home. My neigbours are British & Spanish, and the kids are spoken to in english by their father & spanish by their mother, intermingled with Dutch from both parents and obviosly at school. I would recommend teaching english to kids as early as possible. They pick it up very easy. As for the food, my shopping list every time I go to the UK is : salt & vinegar crisps salad cream HP sauce Chedder cheese PG tips Bisto Chipolata sausages Bacon Some of these things you can buy here (bacon, sausages) , but they are so damned expensive, that I bulk buy in the uk, and freeze them. I miss all of the above, but I can happily survive on Dutch grub. |
