Saint Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland. Briefly .....he is most known for driving the snakes from the emerald isle meaning he drove evil out and brought christianity in 17th March is a religious holiday and anything green, white, gold or the lucky shamrock is associated with it hence the large sale of shamrock which is always sold in pots generally then taken from the pot wrapped in tinfoil pinned on jacke there would also be a lots of masses in the different chapels some towns have parades and of course you go to the pub and drown your shamrock but possibly majority of people in the north of Ireland nationality would be british and would not take to kindly to anyone calling them Irish the old religious thing which all the conflict here really was all about

Yes and at the end of it all a lot of people lost their lives for nothing for years we all lived peacefully side by side then the troubles and areas became catholic or protestant and conflict hopefully is over and again areas are becoming mixed and folk are living side by side at the end of the day we all came into this world the same way and we will go out the same way so can't see the point of it but then I don't listen to or get involved in politics because I see everyonr as equal life is to short for all that sxxx

Thank you both.
Rach , thanks for the history lessen. I think that all we have learned in school about Ireland was that catholics and protestant were not so good friends,so to speak.Of course we know somethings from tv and newspapers but I havent really read it all.All we hear now a days is that Ireland is a beautyfull green island. You dont have big problems now,do you ?My daughters boyfriend went there with his school and he loved it.Ithink I would have a problem in pubs,no smoking, uhhh.Ups I revealed something about my self .Well its going to be the same here in Dk this summer.I supose one can get used to that.I dont go to pubs that often any way Fly,I asked because the only shamrock I knew was the green chrysanthemum. I looked at the internet and discoverd its allso a clover. When we find a clover with 4 leaves it means good luck and we tresure it.We put it into photoframes whith the pictures of our loved ones or among other things, and almost always remember where we found it.Its a bit silly and a very sweet tradition. But I wonder a bit,do you have clovers now,out in nature I mean? ![]() |

Yes that was a problem with the different religions but thankfully I was not brought up that way and we taught our children the same. People are the moment are more tolerant but during the troubles here it was only a small minority that would have caused problems where religion was concerned and yes we do same with 4 leaf clover
