I never realised that they did free charity stalls.
I would just like to say though that if the wreaths are costing you £2 to make, you should price them more realistically. I know that I cannot but the cheapest wreaths in at that price wholesale.

"I do believe a £10 mark up on something that cost £2 to make is what is known as daylight robbery!"

I think £10 is reasonable and certainly not daylight robbery considering someones time, rent, overheads etc that have to be factored in. When you are doing something for charity and have none of these considerations it's easy, not so when you are trying to run a business.

well mrs doubtfire not sure slagging florist markup on this site is the way to make friends here but as for mark ups i buy my wreaths in at 2.50 each i mark them up at 4.99 this year the price is going up so it may end at 5.99 my £10 wreaths are created by myself i use spruce and holly expensice ribbons and silks they go all the way up to £30 you are paying for the florists design that i have to say i have paid(well my mum) good money for in education and further education spending 2 years of my life learning the ins and outs of floristy, flowers and plants i have overheads of rates, rent, wages, electric, water etc.... this all has to be taken into account but back to the matter of wreaths good on you for making money for the charity i also do xmas demos for charity oh and give wreaths to the school fairs to sell

Mrs D., I think what Fly2hi was getting at was you could sell your wreaths for a higher price to make more for your charity

Wreaths

I'm afraid I am with the majority here. It is only sensible for a florist to include in her costing the time taken to make the wreath (I do mine excessively full I know but it can take ages to do 20 - time I have to take out of my private time mostly as it interferes with running the shop - I am the only one there at the moment). As to the point of view of raising money, people will appreciate that you are raising money for charity, and who says you can't have fun when you work for charity. Make it pay girl, I bet there will be a few who gripe but most folk will be willing to pay the extra - its still cheaper than some others and certainly going to be better than those tacky ones they used to sell in my local market (oh man they were BAD) If you and your girls have a skill value it and make it work for your charity!

I speak as a past member of the Glades who are all about raising money for causes.

Go for it.

i made my own, because it was cheap to do, i asked at my local golf club if i could have some of thier holly and because the trees were getting massive and they let me have it for free, i didnt put a massive charge on them, but i made loads, and the profit was my xmas bonus, people who have leisure time to make them will whinge and whine about the mark up, and its people like that, who have too much time on thier hands, who are putting the local florist out of business, they dont have any over heads or staff to pay, they are doing it for fun, and btw mine are made by a fully qualified florist with years of experience, are yours????
