black stem ends?

This is a discussion on black stem ends? within the Product Care forums, part of the Public Forums category; does anyone know why the ends of flowers would turn black..forgot to ask, but ages ago someone complained about ...

black stem ends?
does anyone know why the ends of flowers would turn black..forgot to ask, but ages ago someone complained about some flowers and when I inpsected them the ends were all black, I mean the whole bouquet not just a couple. I've noticed that occasionally rose stem ends are like that before we have conditioned them and wondered if they have been put in water but not cut first any ideas?

Its probably just drying out during storage and then not being re-cut before putting into water.

dont think they were cold as had been kept in mans conservatory and its was warm at the time.

I wondered if he had cut them.. he said but I didn't quite believe him..just wondered if anyone knew for sure

I know it p!**es me off!! we should make them take a lie detector test to weedle out the truth the thing was, it was delivered in an aqua handtied I made it myself and always put more than enough water in it so they weigh a tonne! I need a scentific answer

I once got an aqua pack back which had "died" it didn't have a drop of water in it! The poor flowers had died of thirst. I make sure there is plenty of water in the aqua-packs so can only imagin that it was knocked over by the customer (it was also in castle vase) lost water and wasn't replaced.
