Chrysanths...

I dont often buy xanths but sometimes get the big old blowsy ones. For some reason they never seem to last. I was always under the impression they lasted for ages but not in my shop. Am I buying rubbish or are the bigger ones temperamental?

Cos they will take the piss if you let them... bollock them Alby!

The really big ones that are in season now, Tom Pearce, Shoesmith etc etc can be a bit more temperamental with shattering. I find the brown one Alstro is a bit crap for just shrivelling overnight too. The Anastasia ones are always pretty reliable.

I had some Tom Pearce last week they were really crap! Had some this week and they are beauts. Always have anastasia, all colours, usually great lasters, I always put mine in quite hot water to start with and don't put too many in the vase. Check the foliage, if that looks good then the flowers are usually ok.

I'd pull your supplier up about it if I were you. If you don't complain some of them will give you rubbish. Complain and suddenly you get the good stuff!

I use Appy Days a lot here in the North West and I must admit if I have any complaint about the flowers they swap them straight away for me. They are a bit dearer than my dutch suppliers but to be honest its worth the extra for the good service that I get from them. I won't use anyone else for my wedding work now - I need to know that I won't be let down - the brides would never forgive me.
