Perfect Cold Room Temp

Hello

I have a custom built cold room for storing my flowers (or most of them - (i.e. not sunflowers / gerberas) , but anyway, I have heard much debate over the perfect temperature to store the flowers.

I currently keep mine at around 8.5 - 9C and wondered if anyone would agree / disagree with this?

Regards

H

do you find any particular flowers suffer at that temp - for instance, my roses look a little 'burnt' on the outer petals at that temp

hmmmm... I just blamed that on the growers! As it is our 2nd cooler is set at 9c at the moment (wasn't set up to my liking) so I might try and put my roses out there and see if there is a difference.

I can't remember where I got the info from for the temp, but it was a reliable source. Have you tried Google to see if you can get an answer?

having thought more about it -No, nothing seems to suffer at that temp. The lillies open too fast in the warmer cooler (9-10c) so I definately think about 7c is the way to go.

Don't quote me on this a dutch guy once told me flowers like a constant temp of 15-16 once in the shop, because flowers don't like all the changes in temp ie refridgeated lorry, into the shop, then into really warm house. I do try to keep my shop at that temp and they do seem to last quite a long time, I always have customers telling me my flowers last for ages and ages

OK, I set mine at 7. I allow a 3 degree variation over 7 degrees, otherwise the cooler is on almost full-time! - Now it tens to be off for 15 mins and on for 10 mins etc
