Thumbs up Any cut flower queries, just ask

I thought I would be the first to post on this new forum.

Hopefully it will take off and be an aid to florists all over the UK.

I myself am based in Holland. I have lived here for the last 19 years working on the Dutch auctions shipping flowers all around the world.

If anybody has questions on availability, or require pictures or info on a specific product, let me know through this forum, and I will see what I can do.

hopefully see a few new members soon.

Hi

Do you supply flowers online, if so do you have any restrictions such as minimum spend. I am asking because I have just started my own business working from home as I have yet to find a nice location for my own shop???
Regards
Ian

Hi Ian.

You could try looking at www.flowers4florists.com (one of our sister companies) which have an online ordering system, or you could drop Aspirin an email, because he supplies florists direct. I am not sure about minimum order values for Aspirin, but flowers4florists is 120.00 pounds ex VAT.

Hope this helps.

Paul.

buying stock

Hi ian, you really need to buy from van sales, or go to market. You need to buy with your eyes as well as price. My husband goes to market 3 times a week for the cheap pick up sales, we have a dutchman call twice a week with lorry sales, and a wholesaler calls twice a week, we are quite busy, but you need to begin with van sales if you can't get to market, they will stick by you while you are starting, don't be embarresed to buy small. But DON'T have loads calling, try one or two, find the best one and stick with him, any help you need, just ask, good luck babe

Alternative to Barbie Roses

Hi there! I'm new to this site today, and only a year into the industry. I have had cause to use Barbie Roses 3 or 4 times over the past few months, and each time the petals are arriving somewhat "bruised". I am supposing that this variety is very susceptible to this, or the handlers are being less than gentle!! Can you suggest a similar pale rose that doesn't suffer so much in this way please?

Barbie (or Heaven, which is the same rose) does have a tendancy to bruise very easily, and it did go through a period earlier this year, where the quality was just generally poor. At the moment the quality is in my opinion is good, but it will always be a rose that marks quite easily.

Alternatives are :
Sweet akito
Lyvera (brand new, almost the same a bianca candy)
Sweet Avalanche

all three are a little paler than barbie, but are still definitely true pale pink roses.

Sweet akito

The other two are still quite new, so I dont have any pictures available.

Sweet akito would always be my preference anyway.

Welcome to the site btw.

Have a good look around, and any questions, just fire away.

Barbie Alternatives

Many thanks for your prompt reply and advice. I think I'll bow to your greater knowledge and go for the Sweet Akito this time. Cheers.
