Hi Elaine there are 2 of us and yes it is hectic but we have 2 girls who are doing A levels one going into beauty and the other medicine but have trained them to sell answer phone take orders put through on computer condition stock carried to us and of course make the tea do the errands etc this really helps us out and we book them from one peak to next frees us up to get on with floristry also have a couple of ladies young pensioners who are also available when the girls are not we also have our work area in shop so if they get stuck they bring customer to us and we will talk them through and still be able to work away our mother's day will be hectic this year as we have 2 weddings one on the sat and other on the monday it might be worth trying after all as you say what do we do with them when peaks are over

Hi Rach,
Thanks for your great advice, i'm getting looking already for someone to help out, I could always leave one of us down here to keep an eye on things and i'll go upstairs to make up. Last Mothers day my only florist left the week before!!! and i had 2 weddings on the sat it was my first mothers day in my own shop and i didn't like to turn wedding work away, I will never ever ever do that again, I came in at 3am on the sat and by 7am I was in tears because I didn't think i'd get it done in time, my poor husband didn't know what to do to help me but i pulled myself together and it all worked out in the end, it always does! ![]() |

Last year I had a couple of florist 'friends' offer to help out - oh dear despite being given easy h/t's their work wasn't really up to scratch, I was too busy to take much notice at the time, conseqently I ended up staying until the wee small hours to re-do them, which really knocked us back time-wise. So I suppose the morale of the story is sometimes it's just easier to do it yourself in the first place. Too many florists spoil the handtied ............! Anyway hopefully we will all keep each other going via floristnews and have a very sucessful m/d.

Yes Breezy had a award winning florist for a few days for big wedding thought this was a great bonus my god did I feel good about myself when she had gone her work was dreadful thankfully she was unable to stay for bridal bouquets or buttonholes I'm not perfect haven't half exams/diplomas/awards she has but can't to this day understand how she got them with the rough untidy work she produced

Well i love mothers day, you can sell anything. It doesn't have to be RED.
There is so much scope to show your artistic ability, from hand tieds to arrangements to planted arrangements. it is nothing like boring rose hand tieds and Xmas arrangements etc. There hasn't been many years that I haven't had to work through the night, albeit by myself. I need my girls to be hot on the till, cos after an all nighter, by lunchtime (what lunch) my brain is pickled. you can all get so much work from recommendation, just because your recipients received an amazing arrangement etc. I still say that is the cheapest and best form of advertising. Hope you all have a good one!! |
