I've used David Austin roses once, for a gift order, forget the variety, Miranda I think, but it was a pink one and was a horrible garish shade when it came. The stems were very short and weak, not all of them opened properly, vase life was OK but a lot less than Dutch roses, I didn't manage to sell any of the left overs in the shop as people wouldn't pay the price - they really don't look worth the money to your average punter. They are small too, there are lots of Dutch varieties that are bigger. I've also had a customer comment that she was sent a gift bouquet (from their website) and she was disappointed with their size and vase life, didn't think they were worth the money. Though of course it is a bit different if you are using them for a wedding. IMO, for what it's worth, the white one is too yellow to go with ivory frocks and the pinks aren't the shades that I'm being asked for.
I have sold Sweet Avalanche as an alternative to DA, it has a much bigger head and the colour fits better with the antiquey colours and themes we've seen this year. Good vase life and stem length too, always wows customers never have any waste with it as we all love it too

. We've also sold Illusion as an alternative too, for the same reason. We suggest ranunculus as an alternative to roses for brides wanting that full petalled paeony look for winter/spring weddings.
