Gardening section

Admin, I can't remember where or by who (half a brain and I'd be dangerous) but someone mentioned a gardening section. Would that be possible. Because I'm a florist and because this is a craft centre, husbands are left twiddling their fingers whilst their wives "craft". Most of them gravitate to my shop and start talking about their gardens. They presume I am a font of knowledge (if only they knew the truth ) It would be great to have a section on gardening where we could all pick up hints and tips.Thanks.

Think that may have been me in the thread about 'growing Rosemary'. I agree it would be good to swap growing tips and would help the students too.

That's true I hadn't considered the marketing value. For the record I am selling winter pansies at £1.99 a tray to compete with the garden centres, only make a small profit but it lets people know I am here and brings them to the shop.

We have sold loads of them in the past few weeks. Found a good local suplier and cheap. I compared ours to what BQ have and we beat them on price and quality. Same supplier does bedding plants so we will be looking at them in the spring.

Sorry Orchidlover, I was so busy thinking about Pansies I missed your post. You are right it was your idea! Well done it's a great one at that.
So to prove to Admin that it's a serious request my first tip is.
How to keep slugs off plants.
My dad always put saucers of beer (not lager) out for them. He would push the saucers down so they where level with the soil. The slugs would smell the sweet beer and next morning there would be lots of dead slugs in the saucers. I hate the idea of killing the slugs,(God's creatures after all) but at least it was a nice way to go - in a drunken stupor
