I know we have a 'come and say hello' section but does anyone else think it may be a good idea to have a 'New members meet & greet' area? Was just thinking it may be good for new members to get to know each other before being let loose in the complete forum...or alternatively being thrown to the lions?

was just thinking how new members may be concerned about posting things infront of us all before being entirely sure of how the forum works. At leat this way newbies get to share experiences together...

Any thoughts??

So what are you saying exactly?

We should vet them first and see if they are worthy of seeing the whole forum? Or make them post in a welcome area before they can post in other parts of the forum?

Its hard enough getting people to post anywhere as it is at the moment

No No...nothing like that...I meant for them to use the forum as normal, but to have an area for them to chat to each other about their experiences of the forum. People I have invited didn't feel they knew what to do posting, feeling they were the only new one joining at that time; and didn't want to ask some of the more 'veteran' members for fear of being ridiculed...

Anyway was just a thought to try and get new people posting more confidently in the forum...

I'm a newbie (here, anyway) but I'm the same online as I am in life, happy to jump in and talk the hind leg off a donkey with anyone!

I see your point though, Chris. Not everyone is like me and some forums (and/or posters! ) can seem a bit scary at first glance. I think a separate section would make that 'them' and 'us' thing worse though.

My suggestion to any newbies that feel like that is to read and lurk till you get the feel of the place. By the time you've done that a while you'll feel like you know everyone and something will soon have you pressing reply!

Errr...well thats a very good question!!

How about throwing it open to the panel?!! Was just thinking of an area along the lines of your recent 'Flower Chat' area? But am sure others may have better ideas!

Could do the reverse of Rich club, and make it once you have 50 posts to your name, no more entry. dont know if that is possible, tho.
